Each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of shelter to those in need

The Salvation Army’s Family Services and Emergency Shelter serves single men and women, as well as families with children who need help during a time of crisis. The faith-based program offers a holistic approach to recovery, renewal and rehousing.

Harrisonburg is one of the fastest-growing cities in Virginia and is among Virginia’s 15 largest. Harrisonburg and Rockingham County’s the low unemployment rate and quality of life draw people in search of employment. Some job seekers arrive without money or a place to stay. The Family Services and Emergency Shelter provides families and single adults shelter and support to help them rebuild their lives, including basic and intensive case management, health and nutritional programs, and other community connections.

Intake begins daily at 4:00 pm. New admissions are processed on a first come first serve basis, based on available space. The evening meal is served in the dining room at 5:00 p.m.
